The Cordelia Masonic Lodge #296, a long-standing institution in Cordele, Georgia, has recently become the newest member of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce. The Masons have been active in Cordele for 134 years and have been located in their current building at 215 E 12th Ave for the past 35 years. The building itself is a historic structure, dating back 135 years.

During the Chamber of Commerce meeting, Brother Tommy Kimbrell, the Third District Deputy to the Grand Master for the State of Georgia, spoke about the essence of being a Mason and the organization's activities. Freemasonry has been present in Georgia since 1734, and the Grand Lodge of Georgia, the governing body of the Masons, has been a legal entity since 1786.

The primary charity supported by the Masons is the Masonic Home, which has been serving children since June 1905. Located in Macon on 650 acres of land, the home has assisted over 2,100 children, typically from broken homes or whose parents are unable to care for them. The main objective of the Masonic Home is to eventually reunite these children with their families.

David Simmons, the Pastor Master and Secretary of the Cordelia Masonic Lodge, shared the history of the lodge, which was established shortly after the City of Cordele received its charter in 1890. The current location is the second one in which the Masons have served the community, with the previous location being their base for 80 years.

Those interested in becoming a Mason or learning more about Masonry are encouraged to speak with a Mason or attend a meeting at the lodge, located at 215 E 12th Ave, Cordele, GA. Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with dinner served around 6:15 pm.
