Devonshire/England – The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), the national charity dedicated to supporting soldiers past and present along with their families, continues to make a significant impact. Last year alone, the charity assisted 75,000 individuals across 51 countries, providing critical grants to those in need and funding organizations that deliver specialized support to military families.

The ABF's swift response to urgent cases—typically within 48 hours—highlights its commitment to addressing the needs of soldiers and their loved ones. With an annual income of approximately £8 million, the ABF channels resources to partner charities, enabling initiatives such as specialized home equipment and mobility aids for service families.

In Devon, the charity’s outreach touched the lives of around 3,700 individuals. Initiatives supported in the region include the Plymouth and Veterans Family Hub (PVFH) and Veterans Outdoors, a program designed to enhance mental health through outdoor therapeutic activities for military veterans. Grants have also supported individuals directly, from providing advanced wheelchairs to funding accessible home modifications like level-access showers.

Timothy Golder, Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire Freemasons, expressed gratitude for the collaboration, stating, “It was a privilege to meet representatives of the Army Benevolent Fund and learn about the vital work they do to support our servicemen and women. Devonshire Freemasons can take pride in knowing their contributions are deeply valued.”

Philip Hutchens, Events Executive at ABF, shared his appreciation for a recent £2,000 donation from the Devonshire Freemasons. He remarked, “This generous support enables us to continue providing essential services to the military community in Devon and beyond. In the Southwest Region alone, we’ve been able to assist 367 members of the Army family, alongside numerous charities that offer specialized care on our behalf.”

The financial year 2023/24 was particularly impactful, with the Devonshire Freemasons aiding over 75,000 people worldwide and funding 86 frontline charities and organizations. Their support remains critical, particularly for wounded soldiers requiring long-term assistance in the years to come.

Through their continued partnership with the ABF, the Devonshire Freemasons exemplify their dedication to improving the lives of servicemen, women, and their families, ensuring that no member of the military community is left behind.
