West Virginia/US – Masonic Cornerstone Laying Ceremony
GLADE CREEK, W.Va. – The construction of the new K-8 Summersville Academic Complex was officially marked by a Masonic Cornerstone Laying Ceremony, attended by community members and local officials. Nicholas County Board of Education member Roy Moose expressed enthusiasm about the project's commencement, stating, "It has been a long time coming and we are happy to get this started."
The ceremony, held at the school’s Glade Creek location, was led by Nicholas County Superintendent of Schools Terrence Beam. Nicholas County Board of Education President Chip Perrine shared his optimism, hoping for favorable weather to ensure smooth and timely construction.
The event drew a crowd of onlookers and well-wishers. Superintendent Beam emphasized the importance of unity and dedication within the county. Following his remarks, the Nicholas County JROTC presented the colors, and the NCHS band, directed by Roger Akers, performed the national anthem.
Local minister Aaron Evans delivered the invocation, quoting Proverbs 22:6 and seeking blessings for the youth, the county's healing, and wisdom's growth. Nicholas County Commission President Garret Cole highlighted the community's role in supporting education, stating, “The BOE is tasked with educating our youth, but it takes the whole community to help these kids.”
The ceremony featured Bruce Carroll, Grand Master of Masons of West Virginia, who conducted the cornerstone laying ritual. Before placing the stone, items such as a newspaper, pins, Masonic bylaws, and business cards from the Board of Education and county commission members were added to a time capsule.
The Summersville Academic Complex is a significant project following the destruction of Nicholas County schools in the June 2016 flood. The new facility is expected to be completed by 2027.
