Freemasons from the Hastings and Manning regions, in collaboration with Masonicare, the charitable arm of Freemasons NSW and ACT, have reached a significant milestone in their support for children battling cancer. Last week, they donated $21,000 to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI), bringing their total contributions over the past decade to an impressive $113,832.
A Decade of Dedication
For ten years, the Freemasons have steadfastly supported MNCCI's mission to assist children with cancer and their families. This year's donation was a combined effort:
- $11,000 from Port Macquarie Daylight Lodge, Lodge Star Wauchope, and Masonicare
- $10,000 from the Freemasons' District 44 Charities in Taree
Impact on Families
Nikki Rooimans, Acting Nurse Unit Manager at MNCCI, expressed gratitude for the Freemasons' ongoing support. She emphasized how these donations significantly help families cope with the challenges of a child's cancer diagnosis:
"These funds are crucial in alleviating financial strain on families, especially when parents often need to take time off work during their child's treatment. The Freemasons' generosity allows families to focus on what's truly important – supporting their child through recovery."
A Community Effort
Andrew Fraser, Masonicare Board Chairman, highlighted the donation as a testament to the Freemasons' generosity:
"The Mid North Coast Cancer Institute provides exceptional care to our community. Our donations aim to help with the unexpected costs families face during cancer treatment and recovery. For every dollar raised by a lodge, Masonicare matches it, ensuring the funds directly benefit local communities."
Fraser also acknowledged the local community's support in their fundraising efforts and congratulated the local lodges on reaching this significant milestone.
The Freemasons' continued commitment to the Paediatric Oncology Trust has made a profound impact on families in the community, offering crucial support during challenging times.
