Hay & District Dial-a-Ride, a local community transport charity, recently received a substantial donation of £1300 from the Freemasons. The donation was a combined effort from the Hereford Masonic Charity Foundation, the Loyal Hay Lodge, and the Loyal Hay Chapter, showcasing the Freemasons' dedication to making a positive impact on their community.
The Freemasons have a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of others through meaningful contributions to society. This generous donation will significantly enhance Hay & District Dial-a-Ride's ability to continue providing vital transportation services to individuals who rely on them.
Lesley Moore, Chief Executive of Hay Dial-a-Ride, expressed her gratitude to the Brecon and Radnor Express, stating, "The generous donation will make a difference to us in a year when the cost of living continues to make an impact on our service. We were delighted to welcome Derek Price, Nigel Boothby, and David Gwynne to see our minibus in service and to meet one of our drivers and service users."
Hay Dial-a-Ride, established in December 1994, serves people of all ages within a nine-mile radius of Hay-on-Wye. The charity aims to help its customers maintain an independent lifestyle, reduce loneliness, and combat social and rural isolation, enabling residents to feel part of a thriving community. As a registered charity and not-for-profit organization, all of Hay Dial-a-Ride's income is invested back into the service to support its members.
The service, which will celebrate its 30th birthday later this year, is more than just a means of transportation. Access to health and community services plays a crucial role in maintaining physical and mental health and well-being.
Freemasonry is one of the largest charitable givers in the country, with contributions totaling £51.1m to deserving causes in 2020 alone. The organization's core principle of charity allows individuals to make significant contributions at local, national, and global levels through the donation of both time and money.
