The Wharfedale Men's Shed, a charity based in Otley, has received a significant financial boost from a Baildon-based Freemason's Lodge. The Lodge of Eccleshill Faith and Fraternity has donated £1,500 to support the charity's ongoing efforts to combat social exclusion among men in the Wharfedale area.
About Wharfedale Men's Shed
Wharfedale Men's Shed aims to reintegrate men over 18 who feel excluded from mainstream society. The charity provides facilities and opportunities for creative, physical, and recreational activities. Members engage in various projects, including crafting hedgehog houses, bird boxes, and planters. All proceeds from sales are reinvested into the charity's operations.
The Donation
Brian A Lawless, Worshipful Master of the Lodge of Eccleshill Faith and Fraternity, expressed admiration for the charity's work: "The Men's Shed provides an amazing service to the community in Otley and surrounding districts. We wanted to ensure they could continue their great work into the future."
Impact of the Donation
Bob Miles, Secretary of Wharfedale Men's Shed (WMS), gratefully acknowledged the donation. He highlighted the charity's achievements over the past five years, benefiting both members and the local community. WMS has collaborated with various local organizations, including Wildlife Friendly Otley, Remap, Otley Town Council, and Ilkley Round Table.
The donation will be used to purchase a professional-grade planer/thicknesser. This equipment will allow the charity to utilize reclaimed timber that would otherwise be unusable, giving it a second life instead of being burned or sent to landfill.
Presentation Ceremony
Representatives from the Freemasons visited the Wharfedale Men's Shed headquarters at Otley Courthouse on July 1st. During this visit, they presented the cheque and witnessed firsthand how their donation will support the charity's efforts.
