Wharfedale Scouts Supported By Freemasons Ahead Of World Jamboree

The Freemasons of Otley are lending a helping hand to five young individuals from the Wharfedale district. The youngsters, namely Alice Walsh, Hannah Tomlinson, Natalie Bowman, Noah Dockar, and Leo Easton, have been chosen to participate in the 25th World Scout Jamboree set to take place in South Korea. The world jamboree, a notable event in the scouting community, will commence on Tuesday, August 1, and conclude on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

These five scouts, representing the Wharfedale District, are tasked with raising £3,800 each to cover the expenses of the jamboree. In an effort to gather funds, they approached the Otley Freemasons for a contribution.

In response to their request, four lodges, Horsford, Harewood, Chevin, and Royal Wharfedale, joined forces to gather a total of £754.50. A cheque with this amount was recently handed over to Alice, Hannah, Natalie, and Noah at Westbourne House, Otley. The ceremony was attended by Howard Thompson, the immediate Past Master of Horsford, Phillip Buckley, Horsford’s current master, and Richard Bleasdale, a past master of Horsford and a former Group Scout Leader of Otley Parish Scouts. Notably, Leo was the first to approach these individuals for assistance.

A representative of the Otley Freemasons expressed their joy in supporting the scouts, wishing them a memorable experience at the World Jamboree. They are eager to hear about the scouts’ experiences upon their return.
