The Tranent Wombles, a volunteer litter-picking group based in Tranent, Scotland, were pleasantly surprised to receive a generous donation of £1,200 from Masonic lodges across East Lothian.
The money was raised by the county lodges through various fundraisers held throughout the year. Henry Mathias, Chairman of the Tranent Wombles, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that it will greatly help their operations in 2024.
So far this year, the group has been busy with post-Christmas cleanups around the town. The funds will be used to purchase new litter-picking equipment, bins, and gardening tools. Part of the money will also support the Wombles’ plans to open a new garden area in Foresters Park.
Mathias noted that 2024 will be an active year for the group with lots of projects planned. He emphasized that public support is invaluable and that they are thankful for this donation from the Masonic lodges that will enable them to continue their community service initiatives in Tranent.
