The Masonic Lodge in Spencerville, Indiana, known as Concord Lodge No. 556, held a festive board event on December 27. The event, which is a tradition in Masonry, involves a meal and ceremonial toasts to the future of the organization. 46 Masons from 10 different lodges attended the event, which was led by the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana.
At the event, a financial assistance basket was passed among attendees to help local members in need. Men in the community who are at least 18 years old can apply to join a Masonic Lodge by contacting a current local member. There are numerous websites and references available to inform potential members about the purpose of a Masonic Lodge, and inquiries are welcome.
The Festive Board is one of the oldest traditions in Masonry and dates back to the early days of the organization. In the past, lodges would meet in taverns for a meal and a lodge meeting, and would conclude their event with toasts to the brotherhood, the officers, the country, and the well-being of a successful lodge. This tradition continues to this day with the ceremonial toasts at the Festive Board event.
