David Chopping, a former councillor of Wokingham borough, recently celebrated a remarkable achievement with a group he is affiliated with. He was honored with a certificate acknowledging his 50 years of dedicated membership with the Freemasons. The recognition was bestowed upon him by Matthew Walker, Berkshire’s Assistant Provincial Grand Master, during a special gathering at Sindlesham Lodge on September 15.
Chopping joined the Sindlesham Lodge in 1973 at the age of 27, following in the footsteps of his father, one of the lodge’s founding members. In 1984, he ascended to the role of its master. Beyond his contributions to the Freemasons, Chopping has led a life of service, including a 16-year tenure as a borough councillor and 32 years with Earley Town Council, where he held the inaugural mayorship in 2005.
Professionally, Chopping carved out a successful career as a Chartered Surveyor and was a prominent figure at the Wokingham Hockey Club. In his personal life, he and his wife Margaret are avid bird watchers, a hobby that often intertwines with their love for travel, especially since their retirement.
