A high-ranking Freemason in Kent has criticized the portrayal of the organization in the BBC drama series The Gold, which depicts the Brink’s-Mat gold bullion robbery and police investigation in the county. The series shows police being hindered by Freemasons on the force, who are trying to protect one of the suspects, Kenneth Noye. Mark Estaugh, provincial grand master of the West Kent Freemasons, argues that the series perpetuates myths about the organization and its perceived secrecy.
