A grant of £36,000 from Monmouthshire Freemasons

by editorial board, Abergadenny Chronicle, 1st December 2022

A grant of £36,000 has been awarded to the Phoenix Domestic Abuse Services charity. This means that up to 150 local children who have witnessed domestic abuse will be given help and support. The project aims to help the children overcome the negative impacts of what they have experienced and be able to feel safer.

The NSPCC states that in 2020/21, “Police made almost 245,000 referrals to social services for domestic abuse”, and it is feared that these numbers only represent the tip of the iceberg.

Domestic abuse causes harm to the whole family that can last for many years. It can cause significant damage to children’s education as well as preventing them from forming healthy friendships and relationships.
